THE GHOST OF JOHN LENNON

I was dreaming of the past

I began to lose control

I didn't mean to hurt you

Then suddenly a presence woke me up,

With half opened eyes I saw a flickering image,

Yawning, pressing my eyes tight, reopening,

My mouth gaping open with disbelieve it's the ghost of John Lennon

He said to me

I know I'm a jealous guy

I can understand what you're going through with the break-up of your bird,

Breaking up with Yoko for a year was sheer hell, just write a love poem

And ask for forgiveness.

Am I dreaming, is this real or is it someone who looks like John Lennon

Pulling my leg, but no it really is john. I ask him why did the Beatles split up

“Haven't you got any better questions, alright then it was because of artistic differences, I wanted to pursue my career with Yoko for peace and stop the war in Vietnam, Paul wanted to write lovey dovey sentimental ballads without any real political message, and we met new people in our lives, me with Yoko Paul with Linda who sadly died'.

Still rubbing my eyes again I ask what was all that shouting in a bag about “well Alan mate I was just trying to find Yoko's Christmas presents, but seriously it was just me and Yoko's idea to say to the world everyone thinks were a bunch of clowns, no one was taking our message of love and no more war seriously so might as well act like a couple of pricks in a bag The media, the people will understand what war is really like'. Fully awake I ask him what heavens like “it's cool being with all the great Swinging dudes Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra, we jam every Night on a cloud, really cool mate. So its nothink like Imagine, there's no heaven or hell John “yeah but the difference is everyone goes to heaven- no ones judged. Hell is on Earth. So John what's the meaning of life “well its like this drink and shag every Night, but really its believing in yourself, don't let your dreams die, Al mate you want to be a painter, a poet, carry on pursuing those goals, Look what happened to me (apart from getting shot) I made it big time with the Beatles, I believed and it all came true, keep faith with yourself and it will happen eventually. Also love one another; respect each other, that's what life's about. Well Alan take care mate, dinners ready in heaven, I told Jesus for Christ's sake no more wine turning into water, it's the other way round, and no more fish and loaves, seen enough miracles up here, he doesn't take a blind peace of notice, frustrating Man. See yer Alan don't give up with life'.

As John fades I waken up laughing I've just spoken to John Lennon

Everyone else in the psychiatric ward looks at me strange; it wasn't a dream.
