Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, or Paper Mario TTYD, is the second installment in the Paper Mario series, being the successor to Paper Mario which was on the Nintendo 64 (also re-released on the Wii's Virtual Console), and the predecessor to Super Paper Mario on the Nintendo Wii. Paper Mario TTYD game was first announced at the 2003 GDC (Game Developer's Conference) as Paper Mario 2. In May 2024, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was released for Nintendo Switch with updated graphics, changes to gameplay, and dialogue.

In this direct sequel, Mario visits the town of Roqueport after Princess Peach wrote a letter to him saying that she found a map to a treasure, but then begins to open to a larger story after finding out that she is missing.

This Paper Mario sequel was again published by Nintendo and developed by Intelligent System's. The game also maintains a similar turn-based battle system from Paper Mario and Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
